Emotions in the sky: the Brugherio hot air balloon company

The event is organized in collaboration with the Compagnia della Mongolfiera di BRUGHERIO . The first human-assisted hot air balloon flight in Italy dates back to 1784, the fruit of an Enlightenment vision by Count Paolo Andreani. The event marked the beginning of Italian aviation in the Lombardy town of Brugherio.

Even today, the Company continues to bring a “traveling” hot air balloon to cities in Italy and abroad. For this occasion, in Santa Caterina, it will be possible to board in “tethered flight” mode anyone, including children, who wish to experience the thrill of soaring into the sky, carried by a large, colorful balloon. Meanwhile, on the ground, the educational hot air balloon will be inflated. Inside, visitors will be greeted by friendly guides dressed in late 18th-century costumes who, along with balloon experts, will share stories, curiosities, and, of course, all the secrets of how the hot air balloon works.

A truly fascinating world to discover and experience together!

The activity is FREE and open to everyone!

Exciting trails will take you from the 2,800-meter Cresta Sobretta, in the Valle dell’Alpe, down to Santa Caterina Valfurva (1,700 meters). The cross of Mount Sobretta

In 1968 a group of young people from the Parish of Brugherio erected an imposing cross on top of Mount Sobretta in memory of the young soldiers who fought here on these mountains during the First World War (1915-1918).

The centuries-old tradition of placing a cross on a mountaintop is linked to various motivations, experiences, and events. Many of the excursions organized by the CAI Valfurva lead to the foot of these characteristic and always unique wooden or metal structures.

On Saturday, August 23, with the CAI and the Brugherio Parish group, it will be possible to retrace the paths of history and memory up to the 3,296 meters of the summit of Mount Sobretta.

WALKING THROUGH HISTORY: The Great War in the Valfurva Mountains

There are many traces of the Great War (1915-1918), when our mountains served as a strategic defense point for the Italian border: trenches, artillery emplacements, and caves for troop shelters. Let’s revisit some of these places and artifacts together, in safety, so as not to “forget.”

How many times have you looked at the top of a mountain and thought, “What if I could get all the way up there? What would be there?”

The excursion we propose will allow you to reach the summit of Monte Sobretta in just over two hours of walking, starting from the cable car arrival station in Vallalpe.

The route starts at an altitude of 2,700 m and reaches 3,296 m on Mount Sobretta, where an imposing cross stands tall overlooking spectacular views.

9.30 am ascent with the S.Caterina-Vallalpe cable car.

The Cima della Cresta Sobretta will be the natural stage for a transversal musical journey from Morricone to Piazzolla to Gershwin, waiting for the first rays of the sun to illuminate the valley.

After the prelude on the crest, the concert with the full orchestra of the Filarmonici Veneti will continue at Sunny Valley, enlivened by a breakfast rich in authentic mountain flavors. The cable car ride takes you in a few minutes to the highest point, Cresta Sobretta, at 2,800 m above sea level. Here, immersed in the crisp morning air, among sounds, lights and the heat of the bonfire, we will wait for the sun to rise; a short walk from the Cresta will take us to Sunny Valley to enjoy the second part of the concert with breakfast.

After the prelude on the crest, the European Quintet Jazz concert will continue at Sunny Valley, enlivened by a breakfast rich in authentic mountain flavors.
